Public Service Announcement 2-16-18

Dear Fleming Countians,

The district has been notified of an indirect threat that has occurred through social media.  Again, this is an indirect threat from a student who is no longer attending a Fleming County School.  This threat is directed toward a school in another state, but out of an abundance of safety, we are following necessary protocols.  Local authorities are already involved and working with other necessary authorities.  One of our students alerted administrators at Simons Middle School and they immediately started investigating and implementing necessary protocols.  We have released on Simons Middle School's Facebook page a statement so that parents, guardians, students, and faculty & staff are aware of the indirect threat.

With everything occurring in our schools, we applaud everyone for being extra vigilant.  More importantly we appreciate the student who notified school administrators immediately upon learning this.  We need more students like the student who notified school administrators.  To the student who notified school administrators, on behalf of a grateful community, thank you!  This is the only way we are going to combat tragedies like what has occurred in Florida and in Marshall County - being vigilant and taking every threat seriously.  We are closely monitoring all information at this time to ensure that everyone is up to speed about what is occurring and to ensure that everyone remains safe.  School faculty & staff have been notified and asked to be extra vigilant, but to continue with the teaching & learning process.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.  Thank you for what you do each day to make sure that our students and our staff remain safe in our schools.  Denise Brown is working on public announcements and with local news outlets to ensure accurate information is released as it comes available.
