Advanced Placement Philosophy

Advanced Placement students at FCHS will be offered the opportunity to participate in a college-level learning environment. It should be understood that Advanced Placement courses are challenging; however, most students can rise to the challenge. The Advanced Placement courses that we offer require that students are independent learners practicing effective time management, directed inquiry, strong study skills, applied analysis, and critical thinking. The objectives of the courses are to excel in the Advanced Placement examination in May and to promote a successful transition to college.

AdvanceKentucky

AdvanceKentucky is a statewide math-science initiative dedicated to helping Kentucky’s students reach new heights in rigorous academic achievement. As a part of this initiative, Fleming County High School is able to offer incentives for students in math, science, and English courses. These initiatives are only good for the period of the grant and will expire in 2020-2021. Please see the link to the right for more benefits of AdvanceKentucky.

AP Exam Fees

Students taking AP courses are expected to participate in the AP exam for that course in May. The cost of the AP exam is $84; however, students at Fleming County High School that are free/reduced lunch can take the exam for free. Exam dates are scheduled by the College Board and must be taken on the assigned test day. Students who do not test on their exam date cannot be refunded. Students that pass their exams and pay for the exam will be reimbursed. Reimbursement checks will be distributed in August following score reporting. Complete guidelines for the AP Exams can be accessed at The College Board’s website http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/index.html
