In standard one, purpose and direction, the focus is on the school maintaining and communicating a purpose and direction that commits to
high expectations for learning, as well as shared values and beliefs to include all stakeholders. Ewing Elementary scored highly in all three
areas of this standard. Our school community has engaged in a systematic, inclusive, and comprehensive process which reviews, revises,
and communicates the school's purpose for student success. Our school's community strongly believes that our school's leadership and staff
are committed to a culture that is centered on shared values and beliefs for teaching and learning, including the main areas of achievement
of learning, thinking and life skills. Finally, we strongly agree that our school's leadership implements a continuous improvement process
which is laser focused for improving conditions that support student learning.
Ewing Elementary has a process for review, revision, and communication of its purpose. This process has been implemented and includes
participation from all stakeholder groups. Our purpose statement clearly focuses on student success. Our leadership team came together to
review and revise our vision statement based on the fact that the school reached our goal of becoming a School of Distinction/High Progress.
Our mission statement remained the same. The team then shared the revised vision statement with stakeholders for approval. Once
approved the new vision statement was placed throughout our school, on the website, and in our Pirate Playbook (parent/student handbook).
Ewing Elementary is committed to shared beliefs and values about teaching and learning. This commitment is regularly reflected in
communication among leaders and staff. Our educational programs are challenging and equitable learning experiences are implemented for
all students. Our school is committed to student engagement focused on an in-depth understanding and application of knowledge and skills.
Ewing Elementary's leadership and staff share high expectations for professional practice as well as student learning. Our staff at Ewing
regularly collaborate and reinforce our commitment to the vision and mission through grade level professional learning communities (PLC),
school-wide PLC meetings, school-wide professional development, Leadership Team Meetings, and school survey results. Our school
improvement plan focuses on providing our students with opportunities to be challenged in meaningful ways through various types of
professional development as well as collaboration between team members in our school and district.
The third and final indicator for the purpose and direction section was another area of strength for Ewing Elementary. Ewing has
implemented a documented, systematic continuous improvement process for improving student learning and the conditions that support
learning. The Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) is easily accessible on our school's website and has been provided to each
teacher in the school. Our CSIP is effective and implemented on a daily basis.
Ewing Elementary provides students with instruction that is challenging and rigorous and is aligned with Common Core standards. This past
school year our students scored well on the Kentucky KPREP end of year assessments further proving that Ewing Elementary provides a
high quality education for all students.
