Public Service Announcement 2-16-18

Dear Fleming Countians,

The district has been notified of an indirect threat that has occurred through social media.  Again, this is an indirect threat from a student who is no longer attending a Fleming County School.  This threat is directed toward a school in another state, but out of an abundance of safety, we are following necessary protocols.  Local authorities are already involved and working with other necessary authorities.  One of our students alerted administrators at Simons Middle School and they immediately started investigating and implementing necessary protocols.  We have released on Simons Middle School's Facebook page a statement so that parents, guardians, students, and faculty & staff are aware of the indirect threat.

How Pension Issues Impact Our Students Fleming County Schools

For Immediate Release 10.11.2017

Retiring the Attention on Little Johnny and Susie

The health of our public pension system is extremely important to the Commonwealth educationally and economically. As a state with a top-tier public education system, our success depends upon our ability to retain and recruit top educators and staff members. Unless you have had the privilege to be entrusted with the growth and development of our Commonwealth’s most precious asset, our children, it’s difficult to understand the demands of today's educators fully.

News Release FCS Logo

September 5, 2017

Fleming Countians,

On Wednesday, August 30, 2017, it was brought to my attention that some trophies at the high school had been discarded and thrown in the garbage. To be clear, this was never the intention, but a result of poor communication coming from the district office. When the decision was made to throw items away that had been stored for more than a year in storage containers, due to mold and moisture concerns, we were unaware that trophies were in the construction storage containers.

School Closing - August 21, 2018 School Closed

Fleming County Schools will be closed on Monday, August 21, 2017, as a result of the upcoming Solar Eclipse. This decision was made with a focus on student safety after reviewing information from our insurance agent, discussions with other leaders in Kentucky, and monitoring decisions made by other school districts across the state. Early dismissal was not an option as buses would have been on the road during or close to the end of the Solar Eclipse which places students and bus drivers in harm’s way unnecessarily.

VBS Appreciation VBS Appreciation

As the start of school, quickly approaches and summer fun, camps, and vacations end, I wanted to take the time to express my appreciation to the many individuals, organizations, and, in particular, the churches involved in providing summer learning and engagement opportunities for students. Vacation Bible School, a piece of America’s fabric, still provides enrichment opportunities for youth that are needed in their development to become good students and model citizens.
