February 26, 2018
Dear Fleming Countians:
Over the next two days, Monday (February 26th) and Tuesday (February 27th), all Fleming County Schools will be engaged in an Equity and Culture Audit. Fleming County Schools is among the first public school districts in Kentucky and in the nation to evaluate how we are meeting the needs of ALL students. Our vision to become a District of Distinction challenges us to push the boundaries so that we ensure ALL students experience success. Furthermore, and more importantly, all students must feel comfortable in their school and have a voice in their educational journey.
As a district, we must create a culture where all students are valued, and their needs, goals, and aspirations are a focus throughout the educational process. The audit team, led by Dr. Roger Cleveland, an Eastern Kentucky University Professor and nationally recognized school equity and culture expert, will be reviewing the district’s processes and policies, visiting all schools, observing classrooms and interviewing faculty, staff and students. The goal over the next several years is to reshape the system so that our focus remains on students and we can quickly adapt to the changing needs, goals, and aspirations of our student body.
The equity and culture audit is part of the district’s focus on individual learning going forward. To become a District of Distinction, we must personalize education beginning with understanding the unique need of each student and have a laser focus on assisting every student to experience success. Once again, Fleming County Schools is leading innovation across Kentucky and the nation so that we remain on the cutting edge of the teaching and learning process so that all students are college, career, and life ready. Our students deserve nothing less!
Our Journey Continues…
