Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving

November 20, 2017

Dear Fleming Countians,

As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday, as a school district and community, we all must pause and give thanks for all of our many blessings. No matter what the year has brought our way, the ups, and downs, we all have been blessed in so many ways. We are fortunate to live in the best community, commonwealth, and nation. We have an excellent community, phenomenal students, and parents who care about the well-being of their children, and a faculty and staff who work hard to make the lives of our students better for the future. We are fortunate that our schools sit in the heart of a community that continually displays its support for each school, the staff, and more importantly, our students.

Each day I am amazed by what occurs in our community. Fleming County is known throughout the commonwealth for its neighborly spirit. During a time of need, neighbors rally together to help one another. I believe that it is this spirit that has helped move our students to the next level. In 2016-2017, our students set another record for the district with their achievement. They are now achieving at levels like never before and are meeting higher expectations that continue to increase each year. All of the support from the community, from volunteering in our schools to tutoring after-school and so much more, are the reasons our students continue to succeed.

But I would be remiss if I did not recognize our faculty and staff. We must realize that we have a faculty and staff of distinction. Each day, they come to work ready to do amazing things. They inspire students to dream and more importantly, to be tomorrow’s leaders. We are fortunate to have a phenomenal faculty and staff in our district. Our district has no limits thanks to the partnership and collaboration between the faculty and staff and the community to help students achieve. In fact, this cooperation and teamwork only strengthen our ability to move ALL students to the next level and ensure that ALL students succeed. How lucky are we that some of the most talented, professional, effective and caring educators and staff work in our classrooms, schools and district offices!

As superintendent and a member of the community, I am inspired each day with what I see. The number of volunteer hours accrued each year by students, faculty and staff, parents/guardians and community

members is unparalleled. When I meet with other superintendents from across Kentucky and the United States, they cannot believe the level of support our schools receive from the community and how our students, faculty, and staff, give back to the community and others throughout the nation. The call of service to help one another is distinctive and engrained in the community’s DNA.

Fleming County is one of the best communities in the nation for families. Few places exist that still honor the values that make the United States of America the greatest country in history. Our schools welcome and embrace students and families from all backgrounds. We are always eager to establish critical partnerships with local civic organizations and churches as a means to create a balanced educational system with a "do whatever it takes" mentality to help ALL students. Furthermore, our community views public education as the great equalizer in our society and vision critical to economic competitiveness and national security. As a community, we must continue to build upon each of our strengths and identify areas for improvement, while also valuing our community’s history, heritage, and way of life.

Over the next several days, as we spend time with friends and family, pause, reflect and give thanks for all of our many blessings. Be thankful we live in a country where we have the freedom to provide thanks without the fear of persecution. I want to thank the Board of Education for giving me the chance of a lifetime to serve as superintendent. I have the honor and privilege of being a little part of students’ lives and helping to create the best school district in the nation. I want to thank everyone for making Georgia, Valerie and I feel part of this great community.

On behalf of the Fleming County Board of Education, students, faculty, and staff, I hope everyone has restful and relaxing Thanksgiving. Thank you for supporting Fleming County Schools.

Our Journey Continues…
