Dear Fleming Countians,
January is a special month as we recognize a group of citizens who serve students and represent the Fleming County community. January is National School Board Appreciation Month. We recognize the five elected board members and the board attorney who govern and provide leadership in the district. As I have said publicly across the commonwealth and nationally, Fleming County has a phenomenal board of education – a model for others.
Board members serve tirelessly each school year, spending hours in monthly meetings, in schools and at trainings trying to create the best school district that has a laser focus on students and their achievement. Whether they are developing and approving policies, listening to staff and students’ concerns, meeting with local community members and civic organizations or monitoring district operations, each of the board members keep their focus on student achievement. The members of the Fleming County Board of Education are always pushing the district to do more for students.
They have created and approved a district vision and strategic plan that is a model for other districts across the nation – as the emphasis is on student success and the teaching and learning process. From the beginning, the board collectively focused on Fleming County Schools becoming a District of Distinction. They challenge the district and schools to find ways to meet the needs of all students and to provide the best learning programs that will lead to student success.
As Superintendent of Fleming County Schools, I want to applaud the board for their support and vision for the district. They receive very little in pay or recognition for their outstanding service, leadership and commitment to all students in Fleming County. I also want to thank each one of them for serving students and providing me this opportunity to work in Fleming County Schools. I truly have the best job in Kentucky.
When you see one of the board members, thank them for their service – as we become a District of Distinction.
Our Journey Continues…
