As students return to school this fall, they will find even more healthy new choices in their cafeterias.  The School Nutrition staff will be serving school meals that meet tough Federal Nutrition standards set forth by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.  Now is a great time to encourage your kids to choose school breakfast and lunch!  The Fleming County Schools Nutrition Services is dedicated to providing nutritious, healthy meals to the children of Fleming County.  We strive to plan our menus so that they are student driven, having taste testing throughout the school year at all schools, so students tell us what they want to eat.  In doing so, we must follow State guidelines for both breakfast and lunch.  We will again in 2023-2024 school year, be required to meet the following standards:  Age appropriate calorie limits, students are required to take a fruit or vegetable on tray, wider variety of vegetables, including dark green, red/orange and beans, more whole grains, less sodium, meat minimum/maximum per week.  Two big changes this year are we will be offering 1% flavored and white milk and have received a Whole Grain waiver for biscuits, pasta and rice from KDE School & Community Nutrition.  These two changes were also student driven.  All of our schools are CEP qualified meaning that all students will receive a free breakfast and lunch again this year.

The School Nutrition Program in Fleming County wants to be an advocate for the total educational process.  We believe that the positive link between nutrition and learning is well documented and undeniable.  We welcome your input for this program and pledge our support within the restrictions of Federal and State laws.
