School Calendar Update

Legislation passed last spring allows districts to have instructional days on no less than 170 days AND have at least 1062 hours of instruction in all schools.  Based on this change, students will not have to make up the day dismissed on November 17 because all schools in Fleming County had enough time built in to still meet the minimum instructional time and day requirements.  December 22nd will not be a school day for students at the present time.

Veteran's Day Tribute PowerPoint

Flemingsburg Elementary School held their annual Veteran's Day Tribute on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 in the Don Hardin Gymnasium. Families of students were invited to send pictures and information of any family members they would like to honor during the ceremony. A presentation of all pictures was compiled by Joyce Cox, Technology teacher, which ran continuously throughout the program.

Mrs. Stephanie Emmons, Principal opened the program in welcoming more than 90 distinquished veterans, families and guests. Ms. Amy Bolar, music teacher, led choir students in singing many patriotic songs throughout the program as the entire student population sang along from the bleachers. Three FFA members from FCHS presented the colors.

Mrs. Sandy Reeves was the special guest speaker and told how her father, Charles Buckley who served in WWII, was wounded and had plastic surgery to reconstruct his face. He was awarded a Purple Heart.

Various students read what veterans mean to them from their personal pieces of writing. Student writing and art work were compiled into a brochure and given to each veteran in attendance.
