Fleming County Schools Rank 6th in State in Attendance Improvement

KDE recently announced that Fleming County Schools, district-wide, increased in overall attendance percentage by + 1.102%.  Our district percentage attendance was 95.21% for the 2013-2014 school year.

This increase was the 6th highest attendance percentage increase in the state.  That kind of increase is an accomplishment for students, parents and staff.  Fleming County students made great gains in attendance because the district, as a whole, had a heightened emphasis on promoting good attendance; and each school’s leadership took more ownership of their school’s attendance.  This was accomplished, in part, by adhering to and implementing the policy with more consistency, without changing it.  The district had a greater awareness and focus of student attendance.

It took the board’s support, the school staff being on the front line informing and enforcing the policy in place, and the cooperation of the parents and students.

Just imagine what the possibility is of increasing Fleming County’s attendance percentage even more this year with the changes in the attendance policy.

Superintendent Announcement

On Thursday, August 7, 2014, Brian Creasman was named as the new Superintendent for Fleming County Schools.  Creasman will begin his new duties on Tuesday, September 2nd.  A native of North Carolina, Dr. Creasman currently is serving as Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services and Instructional Support for the Vance County School District in North Carolina.   “One of the reasons I applied for this position,” said Creasman, “is the small town atmosphere.  I was raised in a small town and want my daughter to have those same roots.  Fleming County has some of the best teachers and students in the state.  I'm excited to be here and I'm really looking forward to getting to know everyone and getting started.  I want to thank Vance County Schools as it has provided me excellent training and experiences that has prepared me to step into this position.  As I toured the schools and met students, teachers and the staff today, I am truly confident we can be the best in Kentucky.”

Dr. Creasman will be in the district intermittently until he begins his full-time duties on September 2nd.  Bill Morgan will remain as Interim Superintendent until that time.

One Hour Delay Today

Fleming County Schools will operate on a one hour delay today.  We will stay one hour later at the end of the day to make it a full school day.  Buses will operate on Plan B, and bus routes will be delayed by one hour this morning and afternoon as well.

School Delay Schedule Change

FLEMING COUNTY SCHOOLS ANNOUNCEMENT

State law requires all school districts to have no less than 170 full 6-hour days during a school year.  To be in compliance with this, Fleming County Board of Education approved a plan that if there is more inclement weather prohibiting school from being in session on a normal schedule, there will be 2 options, effective after Tuesday, February 11, 2014:

  1. NO SCHOOLWeather is too treacherous to attempt to have school.   Any days dismissed will be made up according to state laws and regulations.
  2. 1-For-1 Plan(1 Hour Delay/1 Hour Extension)If it is determined, in the interest of student safety, to run buses at a later than normal starting time, a 1 hour delay will be announced.  This will result in school starting one hour later AND dismissing one hour later than regular schedule, but the school day will be a full day.  Also, bus service will operate on the 1-For-1 Plan, observing the delay bus routes.

Note:  If no announcement is made, school will operate on a normal schedule.

For questions, please contact Karen Kirby, DPP, Fleming County Schools, at

606-845-5851 or via email at Karen.kirby1@fleming.kyschools.us.
