Dear Students and Families:
On behalf of the faculty and staff at Simons Middle School, I would like to welcome you to our school and web page. My name is Whitney Wilson and I am excited to begin my second year as Principal at Simons Middle School. I am a proud graduate of Fleming County High School. My family and I call Fleming County home and will continue to support and build our community.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree from Morehead State University in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree from MSU in School Administration. I also have a Master’s Degree from Western Kentucky University in Library Science and certification for Superintendent of Schools from Eastern Kentucky University. I am currently attending Morehead State University pursuing a Doctorate Degree in P-12 Administration. During my educational career, I have served as a middle school Library Media Specialist and as a middle school assistant principal. I had the opportunity in 2017 to participate in the National Institute for School Leaders (NISL) Executive Development Program and the Next Generation Leadership Academy. I was also the 2019-2020 recipient of the Tomorrow's Leaders Scholarship from the Kentucky Association of School Administrators to continue to work towards my goals of higher education.
My personal mission is to continue to build the house that built me, by giving back to the community that has given me so much. I am dedicated to working with students, staff, and the community to provide students with an educational environment that meets their needs and provides them with the same opportunities as students from all over the United States. My vision for SMS is for our students to achieve at high levels while providing an education that not only ensures mastery of academic standards but also prepares our students for the global society in which they will be expected to succeed. Our staff is dedicated to helping all students grow and develop not only as learners but also as citizens.
Our goal is to challenge your student academically, grow them socially and emotionally, and guide them toward independent thinking and problem-solving. Students will be encouraged to display good character and to make good choices that will result in successful outcomes.
I look forward to working with you and your student to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports student success. You can access my weekly messages to staff, students, and families by clicking HERE. Once again, welcome to Simons Middle School.
Principal, Whitney Shannon Wilson
