FCS Press Release 8-28-24

For Immediate Release

August 28, 2024

Dear Fleming County Community Members,

Yesterday morning, an incident occurred with one of our buses while transporting students to school. A member of the community, who was neither a parent nor a guardian, approached and stopped one of our school buses. The individual then proceeded to verbally accost the bus driver. Following a thorough investigation by our School Resource Officer (SRO), we can confirm that neither the bus driver nor any students were in immediate danger. However, this incident serves as a critical reminder of our transportation safety protocols.

It is imperative to emphasize that no individual should approach a school bus with any intent other than to assist in the event of an emergency. Furthermore, only authorized personnel (bus drivers, students, and staff) are permitted to board school buses, except in emergencies requiring immediate assistance. Our bus drivers play a crucial role in safely transporting the majority of our students to and from our five schools each day. We take any interference or attempt to disrupt the safe transportation of students extremely seriously, and such actions are strictly prohibited.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding transportation, please contact Mrs. Kerri Marshall at kerri.moran@fleming.kyschools.us or by calling 606-845-5851. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students during their daily commute.

Respectfully,

Brian K. Creasman
Superintendent
