With deep sadness, Fleming County Schools will not be in session for students on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as we mourn the loss of our SMS student, Lindsey Marshall. This day will be observed as a staff workday to provide space for our faculty, staff, students, and families to attend her funeral and grieve together as a community.
We recognize that moments like this remind us of the importance of compassion, unity, and support for one another. We hope that this time will allow all of us to honor Lindsey’s life and stand beside her family, friends, and loved ones.
To ensure instructional time is preserved, students will make up the missed day on Tuesday, November 4th, which was previously scheduled as a staff workday.
We thank you for your understanding and continued prayers for the Marshall family and our entire school community.

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Lindsey Marshall, a bright and beautiful seventh grade student at Simons Middle School. Lindsey was full of life, a loyal friend to many, and a cheerleader whose energy and smile lifted every person and every room she entered. Her loss is beyond words.
As a parent, I cannot begin to imagine the grief her parents, grandparents, and family are enduring. Our hearts also ache for her friends at Ewing Elementary, Simons Middle, and Fleming County High School. Friendships built in school create a special bond, and we know her classmates and teammates are struggling to understand this unimaginable tragedy.
We understand that news like this can evoke a range of emotions. Please know you are not alone. Counselors are available to support our students, staff, and families. The Simons Middle School counseling staff can be reached at (606) 845-9331, and in coming days, additional counselors and FRYSC staff from across the district will be present at Simons Middle School.
In times of sorrow, our community has always leaned on one another. That strength is needed now more than ever. If you or your child need someone to talk with, please do not hesitate to reach out to our counselors or staff. Together, we will walk through this loss and surround Lindsey’s family and friends with love, prayers, and support.
Sincerely,
Brian K. Creasman
